Liverpool fans in awe of England Under-21 star's Monday display
Curtis Jones came off the bench to provide the crucial moment of creativity for England’s Under-21’s on Monday – and Liverpool fans have praised him.
Lee Carsley’s side came into the match knowing a win was crucial at this early stage, in their bid to qualify for the 2023 European Championships.
Having only secured four points from their first two games – after a 2-2 draw with Slovenia, the pressure was on Carsley’s young Lions.
It was tricky. Away from home on a poor pitch, England were even reduced to 10 men in the second half. Rhian Brewster shown a second yellow.
But eventually, the difference came from probably the side’s two most-recognisable names – Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe and Liverpool ace Jones.
Breaking from an Andorra corner, England sucker-punched the European minnows. Jones, just moments after coming on, leapt forward with the ball.
He drove forward 40 yards or more, before perfectly timing a through ball into Smith-Rowe. The Arsenal ace did the rest, neatly finishing.
What are Liverpool fans saying about Jones, after assist?
A deserved goal, but that is not to say it was a difficult match for England’s Under-21 side. They now sit third in the group, with a game in hand.
It sees Jones continue his brilliant form – just weeks after being linked with a £15million move to Aston Villa in a report from the Mail.
For Jones, he was the centre of praise from plenty of Liverpool fans on Twitter. One fan described him as a “freak”.
