Liverpool fans impressed by Leicester City star Harvey Barnes, after Monday display

Leicester City easily dispatched Aston Villa on Monday evening largely thanks to a stunning performance from Harvey Barnes, as he netted twice in the 4-0 win – and Liverpool fans have applauded the winger.

Before the match, 22-year-old Barnes had scored just five Premier League goals in 45 top-flight outings. But he took his tally to seven as Villa’s defence capitulated before the England Under-21 international’s very eyes.

Barnes opened the scoring, after Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina completely misread a delightful long ball from Marc Albrighton. It saw Barnes nip in before the on-rushing Reina, before finishing calmly from 20 yards out despite the efforts of Tyrone Mings.

Jamie Vardy scored from the spot before netting an excellent third. It was Barnes who got on the score sheet last, with Albrighton laying on a second assist for Barnes – who finished superbly from 10 yards out with his first touch.

Barnes has now been involved in 12 goals during his 27 Premier League appearances – scoring six and creating six. His £10,000-a-week (Spotrac) contract ends in the summer of 2024.

Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to Barnes’ display by urging their club to bring him to Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp likely to bring a new forward to the club this summer. Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner have both been strongly linked.
