Newcastle have completed the club record signing of Nick Woltemade, finally bringing a striker to St James’ Park – and there was just as much excitement in Liverpool at the announcement.

Woltemade ends a summer of frustration at Newcastle when it comes to their attack. Callum Wilson left and Alexander Isak is currently refusing to train as he looks to force a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle have refused to sell Isak unless Liverpool meet their £150m valuation of the Swedish striker, although one factor in allowing him to leave was to sign a replacement. Now Woltemade has arrived, fans believe Isak’s route to Anfield has been unlocked.

So when Newcastle announced Woltemade’s £64.8m signing on Saturday, their social media posts were flooded with Liverpool fans convinced that Isak is now closer to a move to Merseyside.
