Liverpool’s midfield depth is one of the main improvements between this season and last, which was underlined by Jurgen Klopp’s capacity to leave summer signings Fabinho and Naby Keita on the bench against Newcastle yesterday, days after the pair both starred in the 2-0 win over Wolves.
But the Brazilian, who has been impressive lately after a tepid start to his Anfield career, came on for Gigi Wijnaldum just past the hour mark against the Magpies – with his side already 2-0 up.

Klopp’s side are now six points clear at the top of the league, with Tottenham now their nearest challengers as reigning champions Manchester City sit in third, seven points off.
It couldn’t really be going much better for Liverpool right now and as their supporters toasted the perfect start to their festive programme, they were full of praise for Fabinho…
