Liverpool fans hail Divock Origi after opening day win over Norwich

Divock Origi played 74 minutes in the win over Norwich City on Friday – and some Liverpool fans on Twitter went wild for the quality of his performance.

Jurgen Klopp’s team kicked off their new Premier League season with a 4-1 victory at Anfield in the opening fixture.

The Merseyside club agonisingly missed out to champions Manchester City last season and will be hoping to go one better this time around.

They were in front after just seven minutes when Grant Hanley netted an own goal, after some strong wide player from Origi.

Mohamed Salah added a second from close-range after ghosting into the penalty area, while defender Virgil Van Dijk powered in a header shortly after.

Origi completed Liverpool’s scoring before half-time, as the attacker found space in the penalty area and headed in from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.

Newly-promoted Norwich did score in the second period through Teemu Pukki and looked offensively threatening, but Liverpool were just far too clinical going forward themselves.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media picked out Origi for his promising display, as he got off the mark with a goal.

Origi popped up with some special moments last term as an impact substitute and he got his chance from the start with Sadio Mane easing his way back to full fitness.

The Belgian is a versatile attacker that can play anywhere across the frontline and looked effective on the left against Norwich.
