Liverpool fans drool over Marcel Sabitzer after Champions League brace

Marcel Sabitzer was the star of the show on Tuesday night as RB Leipzig knocked Tottenham Hotpsur of the last 16 of the Champions League with a 4-0 aggregate win – and Liverpool fans have drooled over the Leipzig skipper.

Timo Werner – also linked with Liverpool – scored a penalty in the first leg and that gave Leipzig a slender 1-0 advantage going into the second leg. But after 20 minutes in the reverse tie, the clash was over as Sabitzer struck an early brace.

The Austrian opened the scoring after 10 minutes, after crashing home a low, curling effort past Hugo Lloris – from Werner’s lay-off. Though it was a mistake form Lloris, Sabitzer’s effort was still an excellent one given it was his first touch.

On 20 minutes, the tie was dead. Serge Aurier failed to cope with a long ball and ex-Manchester City star Angelino profited, curling in a cross for Sabitzer who headed home – though he again had Lloris to thank for some dodgy goalkeeping.

Emil Forsberg scored late on to win 3-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate. Sabitzer – who joined Leipzig for just £1.75million (FussballStadt) in 2014 – has been in stunning form this season, having a hand in 23 goals during his 35 outings.

He has scored 15 himself, and created eight but it his Champions League form which is most impressive – scoring four and creating two in just seven games. Liverpool fans reacted to Sabitzer’s display, urging Jurgen Klopp to sign him.
