Liverpool fans drool over Arsenal teenager Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli has starred for Arsenal since joining the club in the summer and scored a brace against Liverpool on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup – prompting reaction from Liverpool fans on Twitter.

The two sides played out an enthralling 5-5 draw at Anfield in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup. Liverpool eventually won the clash on penalties, after Dani Ceballos was the only player to miss a spot-kick for Arsenal.

Martinelli, 18, has been in stunning form. He has started just four matches for Arsenal, but has scored a brace against Standard Liege, Nottingham Forest and now Liverpool. He also netted in the 3-2 win over Vitoria.

The Brazilian star has leaped far beyond expectations. When Arsenal fans heard of the news that Martinelli had joined the club from Ituano for £6.5million (Sun), many thought it would be a while before he was in the senior side.

But it is clear that he is a part of Unai Emery’s plans and he has proved his worth already. So far, Martinelli has clocked up three substitute appearances in the Premier League but is likely to start in England’s top tier soon.

On Wednesday night, he netted from inside the six-yard box with an excellent finish before Bukayo Saka put it on a plate for the striker to net his second of the game. He also scored in the penalty shootout and Liverpool fans were impressed.
