Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday night at the King Power, despite the Foxes missing numerous key players. Reds fans took to Twitter, discussing Virgil van Dijk’s performance.

Coming into the match, Leicester were in the midst of a defensive crisis. A 6-3 defeat against Manchester City was expected to be compounded by Jurgen Klopp’s side. Wilfried Ndidi continued at centre-back.

Daniel Amartey, Luke Thomas and Timothy Castagne made up the back four, with a young midfield of Hamza Choudhury, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Boubakary Soumare in front of them.

It looked as if it was going to be a familiar story for Leicester – who were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool earlier this month. Mo Salah, though, missed his penalty – the rebound headed against the crossbar.

Then, just before the hour mark, Ademola Lookman continued his surge in form by coming off the bench to score the winner. It sees the Reds drop to six points behind Manchester City, which could stretch to nine on Wednesday night.

What are Liverpool fans saying about van Dijk and his Leicester display?

Liverpool were by far the better side and Leicester were forced to depend on Kasper Schmeichel throughout. Not only did he save the penalty, but he also denied the Reds on numerous occasions.

That included a brilliant reaction save with his feet to deny Reds defender van Dijk. The Liverpool defender was excellent once again, but it was not enough. Reds fans have praised the Dutchman, despite defeat.
