Kalvin Phillips has taken to life in the Premier League with consummate ease after Leeds gained promotion, while also becoming a regular in the England side – and Liverpool fans have now discussed a potential move, after Garth Crooks’ latest comments.
Phillips once again starred for Leeds on the weekend as the Whites kept their second consecutive Premier League clean sheet – with a 1-0 win over Everton. In the eyes of many Leeds fans, it was one of his best performances in a Leeds shirt.
The midfielder has been in sensational form for Leeds – and Whites fans will be hopeful that they can keep Phillips for as long as possible. Phillips, who enjoyed his 25th birthday on Wednesday, now has 188 appearances for Leeds since his debut.
Phillips has even been touted to become a one-club player and see out the rest of his career at Elland Road. The Mirror, though, claim that Liverpool and Tottenham are both interested in landing the England star – who is rated at £50million.
Now, BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has added weight to those rumours, by claiming in his Team of the Week column this week that Phillips could be a long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson. The Reds skipper is now 30 years of age.
“He doesn’t immediately grab your attention but given time you begin to realise the enormous contribution he’s making to the game,” Crooks said. “I think he’s the perfect replacement for Jordan Henderson and I don’t mean just for England.”
Liverpool supporters reacted on Twitter to the news that Crooks had suggested Phillips could eventually replace Henderson for both club and country – and while remain loyal with Henderson, others think he would be the ideal candidate.
