Liverpool fans discuss out-on-loan Chelsea midfielder's display for PL side, think he would be a good signing

Conor Gallagher has been the subject of many plaudits after joining Crystal Palace on loan from Chelsea. The England Under-21 star is shining under the guidance of Patrick Vieira st Selhurst Park, continuing to do so on Monday. Even Liverpool fans are impressed with Chelsea ace Gallagher.

Gallagher, 21, joined Palace on loan in the summer – a season-long deal that saw the London club beat Leeds to his signature. Reports suggested that he even underwent a medical at Leeds, only for Phil Hay to then rule that out. It has turned out to be an inspired move for the Chelsea midfielder.

Indeed, Gallagher is one of a number of signings made by Palace that have been applauded. Joachim Andersen, Michael Olise, Marc Guehi and Odsonne Edouard are also seen as exciting, astute additions. The midfielder is certainly living up to the billing in his early days as a Palace player.

Following an excellent spell with Swansea and then a tricky campaign at West Brom, Gallagher is showing he has everything in his locker. Goals, assists, creativity from deep – much like his Chelsea hero Frank Lampard. But his tenacity, aggression and work rate make him a defensive option, too.

Gallagher impresses again on Monday, as Palace suffer heartbreak

It was all going smoothly for Palace on Monday night at Selhurst Park. In what is deemed a newly-formed rivalry, Brighton had the chance to go top with a win – but Palace spoiled the party. Gallagher was central to that once again, as he has been with all of Palace’s results this season.

The midfielder won the penalty after a clumsy tackle from Leandro Trossard. One of those Lampard-late dashes into the box saw Belgium international Trossard bring him down. Wilfried Zaha duly dispatched the resulting spot-kick, setting Palace on their way to another three points.

But it was not to be. Neal Maupay scored a brilliant injury-time equaliser in what was one of the last kicks of the match. WhoScored say Gallagher got a rating of 6.74, the third highest in his team. He won a penalty, he made two blocks – more than any other teammate, and supplied three crosses.

Chelsea man Gallagher just what Liverpool need in midfield

His performance, albeit not as eye-catching as his previous displays this season, was a real throwback to an old-fashioned box-to-box midfielder. Most midfielders these days are either attacking or defensive. But Gallagher’s stats show he can do a bit of both. Liverpool need that.

Having allowed Gini Wijnaldum’s contract to run down, he joined PSG. Harvey Elliott came in, but he is much more attacking – and has suffered a long-term injury. Curtis Jones is good, but not great. Naby Keita is just as inconsistent as he is injury prone and it has affected his time at Anfield.

Liverpool need a midfielder, one that is in the mould of Gallagher. Would Chelsea allow a direct rival to have him? Probably not. Is he worth more than reports in the summer claiming he is worth more than £15million? Probably. Nevertheless, Liverpool fans think Gallagher would be ideal.
