Liverpool produced a solid 2-0 win over FC Porto at Anfield on Wednesday evening – and many have taken to Twitter to applaud star Neco Williams.

Williams, 20, was handed just his fourth appearance of the season for Liverpool – having performed superbly during the international break.

The Wales international produced a masterclass during a 1-1 draw with Belgium in World Cup qualifying. It saw him get a chance on Wednesday.

Liverpool secured a fifth win in five in their Champions League group. Thiago’s stunning goal opened the scoring, before Mo Salah got another.

The £10million-rated defender, who was linked with a move to numerous clubs including Leeds United in the summer, lasted the entire 90 minutes.

It looks as though it is a change in fortunes for Williams. He has stepped up his game, showing mass improvement – after a tricky few months of form.

What are Liverpool fans saying about Williams after win v Porto?

According to WhoScored, Williams enjoyed the second-most amount of touches for Liverpool with 88 – second only to Joel Matip.

Two key passes, five dribbles, three tackles, one block and two out of three accurate long balls – Williams was near perfect against Porto.

There had been questions regarding Williams’ ability to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold. After Wednesday, there should be no doubt.

Liverpool fans have applauded the Welsh defender on Twitter, suggesting that Williams has actually improved for the Merseyside outfit.
