Liverpool fans discuss Jurgen Klopp substitution after penalty-shootout loss to Arsenal

Liverpool suffered a penalty-shootout defeat to Arsenal on Thursday night at Anfield as both Divock Origi and Harry Wilson missed their spot-kicks – and Reds fans have discussed Gini Wijnaldum’s substitution.

In what was a pretty poor match between two in-form sides – a match which saw Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp share the touchline for a second time in a week – both goalkeepers shone, with Adrian and Bernd Leno making saves.

That continued into the penalty shootout, only for Germany international Leno to come out on top. He stopped Origi’s penalty, before saving Wales international and linked-away Harry Wilson’s penalty in sudden death.

It allowed Joe Willock to squeeze home a winner from 12 yards and give the Gunners revenge following Monday’s 3-1 defeat. Netherlands star Wijnaldum only came onto the field of play in the 76th minute, replacing Diogo Jota.

The former Newcastle and PSV star has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield but remains a crucial cog. Wilson remained on the pitch instead of Jota – who had struggled throughout the 90 minutes.

Liverpool supporters were frustrated on Twitter following the late defeat after the full-time whistle and questioned the decision made by Klopp with just under 15 left on the clock – to bring on Wijnaldum for Jota, and not Wilson.
