Curtis Jones made his debut for England’s Under-21 side on Wednesday afternoon as the Young Lions were held to a 3-3 draw with Andorra away from home – but Liverpool fans have applauded their young midfielder.
Jones, 19, was called up for the first time by Aidy Boothroyd as he continues to make a mark on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side. Jones – who had been previously capped at Under-19 level – has 18 Liverpool outings to his name.
Wearing the number 23 shirt, Jones was given his debut from the start away to Andorra – with England comfortable at the top of Euro 2021 qualification Group C after six wins from six. But they come unstuck against Andorra.
An injury-time equaliser saw Andorra nab a 3-3 draw, despite Andorra sitting bottom of the six-nation group. Everton’s Tom Davies, Brentford’s Josh Dasilva and substitute Eddie Nketiah found the back of the net.
Jones lasted 74 minutes and provided an assist in his first England Under-21 outings, setting up former Arsenal star Dasilva for his second-half strike. England will now have to wait until Tuesday to secure qualification.
They take on Turkey and Jones can be pleased with his performance – certainly making his case for a start in six days’ time. Liverpool supporters took to Twitter after watching Jones impress during his Under-21 debut.
