Liverpool fans discuss Arsenal star, as £25m opinion emerges

It simply has not worked for Nicolas Pepe at Arsenal. Joining the Gunners for a club-record transfer in the summer of 2019, he has really own shown glimpses since his move from Lille. Arsenal are now reportedly keen to wave goodbye, and Liverpool fans have discussed a surprise move for him.

Pepe, 26, has since produced 43 goal involvements in 98 games for Arsenal – not a bad stat considering 66 of those have been starts. But only 23 of his 43 goal involvements have come in the Premier League. The rest have been in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup or Europa League against lesser opponents.

The winger has not been able to reproduce the form that saw him net 23 times in the season before moving to Arsenal, for Lille. The weight of his £72million price tag has simply weighed too hard on him. Lapses in concentration, and a lack of attitude, has also shone Pepe in a bad light.

His red card against Leeds, allowing Gjanni Alioski to get into his head – before planting that head into Alioski’s face, was the final straw for many. His form this season, meanwhile, has also proven to be a source of frustration. In five Premier League starts, he has failed to score.

Only one assist has come in that time too. When Arsenal are at full strength, Mikel Arteta uses Bukayo Saka on the right, Emile Smith-Rowe on the left, Martin Odegaard as a 10 behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. For that reason, Pepe is now considered expendable – as per Football London.

The report is opinion-driven, but it makes a good point. Those at Football London suggest that should an offer of £25million come in for Pepe, then the Gunners should really consider it. Liverpool fans have caught wind of that report, responding to the news on Twitter.

What are Liverpool fans saying about Arsenal winger Pepe?

Pepe has incredible talent, but needs the right club and manager to unlock it. At Liverpool, the Reds desperately need a winger to cover Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. That is, after selling Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer to Lyon. Harvey Elliott is injured, and preferred deeper in midfield anyway.

That is a similar case with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Curtis Jones. Divock Origi could be about to leave, and is a striker anyway. The only real cover Liverpool have for Mane and Salah, is Diogo Jota – but he is often used as the main striker. That is, especially with Roberto Firmino injured.

Many are worried about January, with Salah and Mane jetting off to represent their countries at the African Cup of Nations. Of course, Pepe will also be at the tournament. But the impending absence of both players highlights the need for cover in the final third – Pepe could be an option.

Liverpool fans have reacted to the reports from Football London on Twitter, discussing a move for Pepe, if a fee of £25million was deemed acceptable.
