Liverpool fans debate Joe Gomez’s form

Liverpool failed to keep a clean sheet once again last night as Joe Gomez returned to the defence.

The Reds beat Genk 2-1 to go to the top of their Champions League group. But Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed at conceding a goal to Mbwana Samatta before half-time.

Gomez was given an opportunity at the back, replacing Dejan Lovren for Liverpool. Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk have been the preferred pairing this season. But Matip’s injury has left a hole in the defence.

Currently, Gomez and Lovren are vying for a start. Klopp clearly trusts Lovren more at the moment as he is playing every week in the league – alongside Van Dijk.

Gomez had a chance to change that last night but his performance produced mixed results. Liverpool fans have been debating the 22-year-old’s form as he has dropped to fourth-choice centre-half at Anfield.
