Liverpool fans debate Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren selection dilemma ahead of Man City clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has one major selection dilemma ahead of the clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Who should play alongside Virgil Van Dijk in central defence? With Joel Matip out injured, Klopp needs to make his decision. Joe Gomez and Dejan Loren are fighting for the other starting spot.

Klopp has preferred Lovren in the league in recent weeks but Gomez started in the Champions League. There are two sides to this debate and Liverpool fans appear to be split down the middle.

Lovren is the more experienced option but he is prone to an error. Up against some world-class talents this weekend, Man City will target Lovren as Liverpool’s weakness.

But Gomez would also be targeted. Man City will look at the 22-year-old England star and his lack of game time this season. Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and others will be keen to exploit Gomez’s rustiness or Lovren’s lack of pace.

City will play balls over the top to break up pressing rhythm so I don’t expect any of the defenders, including the full backs, to go forward. As such, Lovren over Gomez. Plus Lovren has a string of decent games under his belt.
