Chris Kirkland has confidently predicted that Liverpool are going to win the Premier League title this season – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have ripped into him for his comments.
After missing out on the league title last season with 97 points, there is an understandable caution from Reds fans when it comes to clinching the top-flight crown.
Jurgen Klopp’s team were pipped by Manchester City last season who finished a point above them and they are hunting a third successive title this season.
But Liverpool are the early pacesetters after winning all eight league games so far and second-placed Manchester City sit eight points adrift during the international break.
Ex-Reds goalkeeper Kirkland has suggested that the Merseyside club already have a significant lead and believes the title is destined for Anfield.
“I honestly do think it is,” Kirkland responded to Sky Sports when asked if he thinks Liverpool will win the title.
“Last year was so unlucky. People say losing by one point was devastating, I would rather have lost by one point than be 15, 16 points behind City still.
“When we play them, if we can take points off them then all of a sudden you’re talking double figures. Can you see us losing four or five games this season? Not the way we’re playing.”

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media are frustrated by Kirkland’s confidence so early in the season and they will remember being caught by Manchester City last year.
