Liverpool fans claim 20-year-old was wrongly left out in Brighton defeat

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 at home to Brighton on Wednesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter believe that it was the wrong decision from manager Jurgen Klopp to leave out Curtis Jones from the starting XI.

The Reds saw their long unbeaten home record in the Premier League end in January with defeat to Burnley and they’ve now lost back-to-back matches at Anfield.

Liverpool’s best goalscoring chances fell to Mohamed Salah, but he was unable to take them and there was very little threat offered from anyone else in midweek against Brighton.

The Merseyside giants are having an extremely difficult time defending their league crown and sit fourth in the table.

There were a handful of key players missing from the XI against Brighton and a lack of depth in the squad is starting to tell.

A selection of Liverpool supporters on social media were left frustrated that academy graduate Jones was named on the bench against Brighton.

The 20-year-old did get a late cameo on the pitch as a substitute, but had very little time to make an impact.

The central midfielder is a highly-rated talent that enjoyed a good run in the side during December, but has mainly been a substitute so far in 2021.

Here are some Liverpool fans discussing Jones:
