Many Liverpool fans are raging after FIFA released their shortlist of names for this year’s ‘Best Men’s Player’ award.
The governing body has issued a 10-strong list of all the best players in the space of the past year, as deemed so by ‘a panel of experts’.
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Frenkie de Jong, Kylian Mbappe, Eden Hazard, Matthijs de Ligt have all been nominated for the award.
Liverpool have representation in the form of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, but lots of Reds supporters are aggrieved at the fact that there is no place on the list for goalkeeper Alisson.
The Brazil number one was sensational in his debut season at Anfield.
He scooped the Golden Glove at the end of the Premier League season, and played a huge part in the club’s Champions League triumph.
He also recently helped Brazil to Copa America glory, making his omission genuinely perplexing.
It is worth noting there is a separate ‘Best FIFA Goalkeeper’ award that has been going since 2017, whichthe26-year-old is surely a hot favourite for.
Liverpool fans react
After FIFA released their list, fans were nothing short of livid with the snub:
How can Harry Kane who missed 16 games last season, manage to be selected past a record breaking 3 golden glove winner, CL and Copa America winner Alisson Becker, in FIFA Best Men’s top 10 nominees is beyond me. ?

Alisson Becker won the Golden Glove for PL, UCL and Copa America. First GK to achieve this.
He has the most saves in the UCL, best save % in the PL and is the 3rd favourite for Ballon d’Or.
He is not nominated in the top 10 for FIFA’s Best Player of the Year. Speechless.

Totally disrespectful to his season. He has a case for Balon D’or and he’s left off the list?

How is Alisson not in the nomination for Fifa best men’s player? Goalkeepers are part of the game too yanno.

Laughable how Harry Kane made the top 10 on that FIFA list, but Alisson missed out. Champions League, Copa America plus 1000 golden gloves and still no nomination.

Including Kane and De Jong over Alisson and Bernardo, what a massive farce.
