On Friday night, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum scored during Holland’s 2-0 win over France in the UEFA Nations League.

Wijnaldum’s strike marked his second in as many Nations League matches for the Dutch national team, prompting Liverpool supporters to hail the goalscoring exploits of the 28-year-old.

The central midfielder has developed a knack for netting in the big occasions, scoring against the previous two defending World Cup champions in successive matches.

With goals against Germany and France under his belt, along with starting 11 out of Liverpool’s 12 league matches to date, the Dutch international is enjoying a remarkable start to the 2018/19 campaign.

Reds supporters applauded Wijnaldum after the match, recognising his stellar international form against some of the world’s best sides.

Given the midfielder’s red-hot international form, some supporters questioned why Wijnaldum cannot produce the same magic at Anfield. To date, he has bagged just once in the league, during Liverpool’s win against Tottenham in September.

Fans speculated Wijnaldum’s holding midfield role at club level may be holding him back in the attacking department.
