Liverpool fans absolutely buzzing over Thursday announcement

Virgil van Dijk is back and for Liverpool fans that is extremely exciting. The defender has been missing since suffering a knee injury in October and he’ll be chomping at the bit to get going this season.

Some good news has emerged too. Boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Dutch enforcer is in line to play against Norwich City this weekend – along with Joe Gomez.

Liverpool will aim to bounce back this season. They relinquished their title with a whimper last season, surrendering amid a ridiculous amount of bad luck with injuries.

Van Dijk was one of those. He ruptured his ACL during a clash with Everton and failed to play again during 2020/21. Gomez suffered the same fate on international duty with England.

Both players look set to return to action this weekend. Liverpool travel to Norwich for the Premier League curtain-raiser and both Van Dijk and Gomez will be in the squad.

Ibrahima Konate has been added from RB Leipzig this summer. He looks set to play regularly alongside Van Dijk, with Gomez likely to act as a backup option.

Nonetheless having both men back is positive. The club’s website made the claim about both being in contention to travel to East Anglia earlier today.

Liverpool fans nervous but excited over Van Dijk return

After so long out of action, the Reds faithful are naturally delighted. They are, however, slightly anxious that Van Dijk doesn’t break down with a similar injury this season.

The news that he’s set to return at Carrow Road has been met with glee, although some supporters remain in a nervous state of mind ahead of the weekend.

Van Dijk is vitally important to Liverpool. With that in mind, fans hope that he can help Liverpool win back their Premier League crown this season.

Fans have taken to Twitter following this news breaking and here is what they had to say about Van Dijk’s potential return.
