Liverpool linked to £35m-rated star who outscored Firmino and Mane last season, fans should be buzzing - TBR View
Former Premier League champions Liverpool have some players in their sights this summer and one of them has to be Euro 2020 winner Domenico Berardi.
On a rainy night at Wembley, the winger was introduced as a substitute as Italy defeated England on penalties to win the tournament.
Berardi registered a single assist during Euro 2020, although he did catch the eye with a string of energetic performances. He started three games under Roberto Mancini and was introduced as a substitute in three others.
Where would Berardi fit at Liverpool?
He typically operates as a right-winger and that would make him decent competition for Mohamed Salah. During 2020/21, Berardi scored 17 goals and claimed eight assists in Serie A.
Liverpool could do with some competition for the front three. Although Salah was flying during 2020/21, the same can’t be said about Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino.
Berardi outscored the Senegalese and Brazilain stars last season. As a result, he’d be a welcome addition to Klopp’s squad to add some real quality to the ranks.
What have they said about Liverpool target Berardi?
Four years ago the player was on the radar at Everton. With interest now rife, perhaps the Toffees will live to regret not choosing to sign him.
Back then, the Italian received some praise from Arrigo Sacchi during an interview with FourFourTwo.
The ex-AC Milan manager said: “Berardi is a player of great talent, a modern footballer who plays for the team all over the field. He has liveliness, intuition, temperament and strength combined with good technique.
“He is an introverted youngster, but with his head on his shoulders.”
The link to Liverpool should make for interesting reading and he’s a signing who could delight the club’s ardent fan base.
