Liverpool have undergone something of a revitalisation of Arne Slot’s squad this summer, with major signings and notable exits at Anfield in recent months.
The Premier League champions are favourites to retain their crown this season and Liverpool started their 2025-26 campaign with a win over Bournemouth on the opening weekend.
Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong to boost Slot’s squad before the season started, while the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have departed Merseyside.
While Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak has dominated transfer discussions of late, the Reds should move for another big-name attacker instead to boost their chances of silverware this season.

Rodrygo a better option for Liverpool than Isak
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with a number of Premier League sides this summer, with the Brazil international falling down the pecking order in the Spanish capital following the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager.
Arsenal could sign Rodrygo, as reported by TBR Football, with the South American in demand as the September 1 transfer deadline approaches.
However, looking at Slot’s options in the final third, the 24-year-old Brazilian would be an excellent signing for Liverpool.
The departure of Diaz raised some eyebrows given how important the Colombian has been to the Anfield side in recent years, and has robbed the Premier League champions of a player brimming with pace, trickery and quality delivery from wide areas.
While signing Isak would give Liverpool a player with a proven goalscoring record, to balance Slot’s options an additional wide player would be a better choice than another central striker.
Ekitike the main man in striking role
Ekitike has started his time at Liverpool well, scoring both in the Community Shield and against Bournemouth last weekend.
The former Eintracht Frankfurt man would surely have to drop out of the starting XI if the Reds did sign Isak, something that seems unthinkable given the immediate impact he has made on Merseyside.

However, signing Rodrygo would give Liverpool an additional option on both flanks and allow Ekitike to continue to be the main man through the middle.
Cody Gakpo is versatile enough to play through the middle if required and could be an able deputy to Ekitike, while also competing for a starting place on the left with Rodrygo.
As such, if Liverpool are looking for a final attacking signing to balance Slot’s squad before the window closes, it should be Rodrygo – not Isak – who they go all out to land.
