Liverpool youngster Yasser Larouci was thrust upfront for the U23s against Everton in a surprise move by Neil Critchley.
The 18-year-old, who primarily features as a left-back, was asked to move into a striking role against the Toffees, with Paul Glatzel injured and Rhian Brewster on the bench for the first-team.

Algerian Larouci didn’t score, but made an impression in an unfamiliar role.
Manager Critchley said of the starlet’s display after the 2-1 win (Liverpool Echo): “I thought he played it very well. We played him up there to do a specific job for the team.
“It’s not his normal position but I thought he did very well against two centre-halves. He battled and competed and gave them some problems before drifting out to the wings in the second half and giving the full-backs a few problems as well.

“He used to play as a winger as a kid so we’ll have to see (if he’ll play upfront again).”
Larouci playing as a striker reflects a new culture at Liverpool, with many of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team players adaptable and able to play in various positions.
TBR’s view – Larouci versatility will aid first-team chances
Larouci having the ability to play multiple different positions will undoubtedly boost his chances of appearing for the first-team.

First-team boss Klopp clearly regards versatility very highly, and the fact Larouci has now experienced playing not two, but three positions is a big positive.
He’ll have his work cut out given the quality that’s in the first-team and the talent of some other Academy players, but if Larouci works hard enough then he’s in with a chance.
