Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has told the club’s official website that he has no issues with Adrian filling the void left by the injury to Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian hobbled out of the Reds’ 4-1 win over Norwich City on Friday night with a calf problem and was replaced by the former West Ham United man.
Adrian will be between the posts when Liverpool take on Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul this evening.
Impressive defender van Dijk isn’t worried, however.
He told the club’s official website: “Adrian has been in now for his second week. We have been working day in, day out. For him, it’s obviously very good that he starts playing straight away.
“He played for so many years in the Premier League and we could already see in training how good he can be.
“He needs our support – we all do it together, we defend together. We need him there, he needs us as well. He will definitely do the job.”
Liverpool will hope to add their second piece of silverware in just a few months when they face Frank Lampard’s new-look Chelsea outfit.
They were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season.
Adrian appears to have the full support of his dressing room.
Virgil van Dijk is one of the most influential members of the squad and these comments will be music to the ears of the understudy stopper.
The £180,000-a-week star (Spotrac) speaks fondly of the Spaniard and that bodes well for this evening’s game.
Playing behind van Dijk must be a joy to behold for any goalkeeper and he will hope to lead Liverpool towards more silverware this evening.
