Defender Joe Gomez has showered praise on his club and international team-mate Jordan Henderson after another exceptional performance on Saturday.
Henderson found the net in the 4-0 thumping of Southampton and as per the Liverpool Echo, Gomez was keen to point out the importance of a player who has not always been appreciated in the world of football.
He said: “It can’t be underestimated how big Hendo is for us. He’s the skipper and the leader and he ticks all the boxes on the pitch and off the pitch. He’s another massive player for us.
“All of us individually appreciate him and as a team and as a club I think he deserves to be appreciated. We are lucky to have a skipper like that.”
TBR’s View – Goals and assists are pushing Henderson’s game onto the next level
It’s not that Henderson’s recent spurt of goals and assists means he is suddenly playing miles better than he has been when he wasn’t scoring.
But it has grabbed people’s attention and if Henderson is playing in that more advanced role, attacking output would add an extra dimension in that position.
A large part of playing in central midfield for Liverpool is covering the full backs but if Henderson can get into the box regularly and keep slotting home, Jurgen Klopp would have the goalscoring midfielder he has not had since Philippe Coutinho left.
Henderson deserves all the praise coming his way. His recent goals have shone light on a player who has been at the peak of his powers all season long.
