Liverpool claimed their sixth European Cup on Saturday when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Mo Salh gave Liverpool the lead inside two minutes before Divock Origi capped the victory with a neat finish three minutes from time.

It marked a first Anfield trophy for boss Jurgen Klopp and ensured that a quality season didn’t end without silverware. Liverpool finished on 97 points in the Premier League but were denied by Manchester City for the title.

Yesterday, Liverpool returned home for their victory parade and the fans came out in their masses. The streets of the city centre were lined with miles upon miles of red shirts as folks paid their tributes to a sensational team.

For some players, the victory parade might be their final act in the red of Liverpool. Daniel Sturridge looks almost certain to be one of those squad members.

The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer and hasn’t been a regular starter at Anfield for some time now. He will probably look towards pastures new for the future as he goes in search of first-team football.

During Liverpool’s parade around the city with their newly acclaimed trophy, he tweeted a message of gratitude towards the club’s supporters:

The Reds faithful were keen to pay their respects to Sturridge who has scored 68 goals in 160 appearances during his time with the club.

Liverpool fans were keen to offer their support to the forward following his tweet and responded in a passionate fashion. We rounded up the best responses to his heartfelt message:
