Liverpool could be set for a surprise windfall due to a cleverly inserted sell-on clause if one of their former players is on the move this summer.
The Reds have remained relatively inactive in the transfer market this summer and are the only Premier League side yet to sign a player as new manager Arne Slot continues to evaluate the options at his disposal currently.
They could wait to offload fringe players before dipping into the market and a handful of them have been linked with exits, with Wataru Endo, Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg believed to have suitors, among others.
Liverpool‘s transfer budget could be further bolstered this summer if Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke secures a transfer, with the Englishman reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool have clause in Solanke contract

The Reds offloaded Solanke to Bournemouth in the summer of 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £19m plus add-ons.
Additionally, the sale included a sell-on clause that would see Liverpool net 20% of any fee the Cherries received from a future sale.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are ‘exploring’ a move to sign Solanke, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season for Andoni Iraola’s side.
Solanke also received special praise from Jurgen Klopp last season, who dubbed him a ‘wonderful’ player in January. Although Bournemouth are yet to name a price for their star man, The Athletic revealed in June that Solanke has a £65m release clause in his contract that can only be activated by select clubs.
If Tottenham fall into that category and agree to pay the release clause, Liverpool could receive approximately £9m, which is a sizable chunk of money for a fringe player they sold in 2019. But even if Spurs and Bournemouth agree a deal for a price lower than his release clause, the Reds still stand to make a sizeable amount of money.
Solanke played 27 games for Liverpool and scored just one Premier League goal for the club after signing from Chelsea for a tribunal-set fee believed to be in the region of £3m after the expiration of his contract.
At Bournemouth, however, the 26-year-old has finally come of age and looks at home in the Premier League as he aims to build on his most prolific season in the top flight. Tottenham’s interest is concrete, but it remains to be seen if Ange Postecoglou’s side press ahead with a move in the coming weeks.
