Liverpool could reportedly turn to Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele this summer if RB Leipzig continue to be stubborn about Timo Werner’s asking price – and Luis Suarez’s prediction should convince the Reds to land the French ace.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for 24-year-old Werner, who has been in sensational form for Julian Nagelsmann’s side this season – scoring 30 and creating 12 in 39 games. But recent reports suggest Liverpool are no longer keen.
However, football website 90Min remain interested in the Germany international – but have threatened Leipzig that they will not buy the German if Leipzig remain stubborn. Liverpool want to pay £40million, while Leipzig want his release clause fee.
Indeed, the threat is that if Leipzig remain stubborn, Liverpool will go after World Cup winner Dembele – who is on the transfer list at Barcelona, and even a loan deal could be orchestrated. Suarez once claimed he could become one of the best.
“He’s going to be one of the best in the world,” Suarez told Sport in 2019. Asked about his pace, Suarez said he is quicker than Lionel Messi: “I’m not able to catch him and Leo [Messi] is even further behind of him.”
TBR’s view – Dembele can be just as good as Werner
The only difference between the players is that Dembele has had no luck with injuries, while Werner has remained first choice for a number of seasons now – at both Stuttgart and then Leipzig.
Werner has clocked up more than 250 senior appearances at club level with 29 Germany caps, while Dembele has only reached the 150 mark with 21 France caps. The difference is Werner has not had injuries, meaning he is more consistent.
But Dembele can be just as good if the given the time and confidence. Potentially signing him for a cheaper fee than Werner, there is no reason why he cannot be just as good a signing – if he remains injury free.
