Liverpool are looking to make a number of new signings this summer and after missing out on Leny Yoro to Manchester United, have a new defender in mind.
The Reds are now firmly in the Arne Slot era and are looking to ensure the Dutchman has the right tools at his disposal to compete next season.
Of course, news of United signing long-term target Yoro has not gone down well supporters at Anfield and there’s now an expectation from some for the club to go out and sign new players.
For Liverpool, a number of positions are seen as key but after targeting and then missing out on Yoro, it’s clear a new defender is wanted.
And according to a report from CaughtOffside, that search for a new defender is taking them to the Bundesliga.
Liverpool looking at signing Odilon Kossounou after missing out on Leny Yoro
According to the report from CaughtOffside, Kossounou is ready to leave Bayer Leverkusen if the right offer comes along and a number of clubs are keen.
Liverpool are thought to be one of the clubs higher up the list and it’s suggested they’ve even made an enquiry already to sign Kossounou.
Leverkusen are believed to be looking for a fee of around £40m to sell the Ivorian international and that’s a fee that Liverpool could afford.
The Reds do have a gap at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk after losing Joel Matip.
There are also concerns over the fitness of Ibou Konate, while Liverpool are also considering selling Sepp van den Berg.
Joe Gomez also played most of last season at full-back.
Kossounou, then, could well be a long-term partner and eventual replacement for Van Dijk and after starring under former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, comes with a good pedigree.
Described as a ‘really quick’ defender by the Bundesliga website, Kossounou certainly looks to have the right attributes to succeed in England.
