Liverpool could make move to sign £38m Brazilian star after missing out on Martin Zubimendi

Right now, Richard Hughes and Liverpool must still be reeling from the news that Martin Zubimendi has chosen to stay at Real Sociedad for another season.

There was genuine belief at Anfield that Zubimendi would be Arne Slot’s first summer arrival, a statement signing of the new era.

However, as he did with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, the Spaniard rejected a move in order to stay with his boyhood club.

Therefore, Liverpool will now need to turn their attention elsewhere or find a solution internally – perhaps trusting the likes of Ryan Gravenberch or Alexis Mac Allister.

Judging by reports, it currently appears as if Liverpool are leaning towards the latter, happy to make do with Wataru Endo and Slot’s forward-thinking midfielders.

That being said, it seems incredibly unlucky that Liverpool would go the whole summer without a significant signing, especially with Slot just arriving.

And although Zubimendi’s decision is a big disappointment, good news could still stem from La Liga for Liverpool fans this month.

Liverpool now ready to bid for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo to salvage their summer

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are now waiting in the wings to bid for Rodrygo should they get any encouragement from Real Madrid.

Naturally, given that the £38m-winger is one of Madrid’s key forwards, Liverpool fans may be pessimistic about that situation arising.

However, Kylian Mbappe’s arrival at the club has weakened Rodrygo’s position, the player who could be most affected by the Frenchman arriving.

The Brazilian may now drop to the bench in order for Carlo Ancelotti to start Mbappe – a role not befitting a player of Rodrygo’s quality.

It may seem odd to some that Liverpool would swivel from Zubimendi to a winger, but they are both positions that Slot would reportedly like to strengthen, as well as a new centre-back.

Ben Doak could still leave Liverpool on loan this summer and Slot’s slight look slightly light on options, especially were Luis Diaz to make a shock late exit.

Reports in Spain are still linking Barcelona with a move for Diaz.

And perhaps if that ever were to happen, then Liverpool could make an immediate push to sign Rodrygo from Madrid, who could even be considered an upgrade.
