Liverpool could go after Werner, but Reds should place Osimhen on standby

Liverpool are being tipped by many to make a move for Timo Werner this summer.

The Germany international has been enjoying another brilliant season over in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, scoring 25 goals in 31 appearances so far.

The star is reportedly admired by Jurgen Klopp and is reported by Bild to covet a move to Merseyside, and there have been whispers Leipzig will be open to selling for the right price.

There may be a good chance of Liverpool being able to afford, given they haven’t made a big-money signing in any of the past two transfer windows.

They could be heading into the summer with something of a war chest, but Werner would still likely have to accept a reduced role at Anfield, with Roberto Firmino a world-class talent.

It’s important for Liverpool to be looking at other transfer options should a move for Werner not materialise, and one man who could be a really good alternative, is in-form Lille star Victor Osimhen.

TBR’s view – Osimhen a potentially quality Werner alternative

Sky Sports reported in December that the Reds were one of several teams monitoring the Nigeria international.

Since that report came out, Osimhen has scored a few more goals for the Ligue 1 side, some of which have been of brilliant quality.

In recent games against AS Monaco, Gonfreville (in the cup) and Angers, Osimhen has scored in one-on-one situations with total ease, chipping the goalkeeper after racing through on goal with his searing pace.

His strike against Marseille, another outstanding dinked effort, was his 18th goal of the season, suggesting he seriously knows how to finish.

Like Werner he is extremely quick and loves to spring the offside trap, and the Reds should definitely consider him as an alternative to the German this summer.
