Liverpool are about to admit selling Mane was wrong by signing 'extraordinary' player - TBR View

Liverpool sold Sadio Mane in the summer and since then, things just haven’t quite been the same in attack for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Mane was a key figure for the Reds as they won both the Premier League and Champions League. However, he expressed a desire to leave and in the end, it was Bayern who landed the former Southampton man.

Of course, since then, things haven’t gone great for either party. Bayern fans have become a bit perplexed at not seeing the Mane Liverpool got, while Liverpool themselves have seen a dip in their own performance levels.

But with the January window around the corner, Liverpool could be about address the loss of Mane by signing Real Madrid and Spain superstar, Marco Asensio.

Liverpool want to sign Asensio

The Mirror has reported in its printed edition today that Asensio is now a target for Liverpool. It comes as the Reds desperately seek January reinforcements in a bid to get themselves back in the mix for the top four. And on paper, it looks a bold but brilliant move.

Asensio is a top talent and is used to winning things in Madrid. He’s a multiple Champions League winning midfielder who can play centrally or on either wing if required. He brings goals, assists, and a wow factor to teams when he’s on form. Indeed, it’s a similarity which resonates with those performances Mane produced at Anfield.

Of course, there is competition. Arsenal are thought to be keen on Asensio as well. Reports from Italy make that claim, suggesting that Mikel Arteta is desperate for Asensio to sign.

However, if Madrid are to sell, then it is Liverpool who need to push on here. Selling Mane was a mistake, however you look at it now. But the best thing the Reds can do is rectify that mistake by landing quality player.

Asensio is someone who can fill Mane’s boots and more. And in the end, it might just be enough to ensure those top four spots don’t slip away come season’s end.
