Liverpool should consider promoting Tony Gallacher after latest Alberto Moreno effort

Liverpool fans were left fairly disappointed with the performance of one of their players last night. Once again, Alberto Moreno failed to impress. Called in to give Andrew Robertson a rest in the League Cup, he had a torrid game.

Liverpool fans have simply had enough of the player and some are wondering if it is tie to drop him as the back-up left-back.

But who could step up?

Liverpool do have one youngster in their ranks they fought hard to sign who could be an option.

In January, the Reds spent £200,000 to bring in Tony Gallacher from Falkirk. The Scottish youngster was a wanted man, with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona also linked with the talented full-back.

But instead, he headed to Liverpool and has been playing with the club’s under-23s this season.

Undoubtedly he is a talented player. Of course, experience is an issue, but Liverpool could certainly bring him into the first-team set-up for now and see if he sinks or swims.

They did so with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the other side and he has now forced former England international Nathaniel Clyne into a supporting role.

With Moreno a worry, Liverpool also have James Milner capable at left-back, so the pressure would not entirely lay on Gallacher should something happen to Robertson.

But perhaps it is time to rethink who the direct back-up is to the star Scotsman. His young compatriot might just deserve his chance.
