‘He’d slot in nicely’: Dean Saunders wants Liverpool to sign Tottenham maestro Christian Eriksen

Former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders has told Talk Sport that his former club should sign Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.

The Reds won the Champions League last season and won’t make wholesale changes during the summer.

Saunders spent a season at Anfield during 1991/92 and he thinks the Dane would slot into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Eriksen is out of contract next summer and Spurs could well cash in during the current transfer window.

The ex-Wales international, Saunders, would love to see him at Anfield.

He told Talk Sport: “They could spend the budget maybe, I think Christian Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team; somebody like Eriksen.

“That type of player who will make their midfield a bit more productive.”

The 27-year-old has been at Tottenham since 2013. During his time with the club, he has scored 66 goals and registered 86 assists.

Spurs won’t want to lose Eriksen on the cheap despite his contract situation. The Evening Standard stated recently that the club will look to recoup north of £60 million for the player paid £150k-a-week.

TBR Verdict

Eriksen would be a tremendous signing for any Premier League club, including Liverpool.

It does seem, however, that the Dane will hold out for a dream move to Real Madrid.

He has been linked for a long time with a move to the Spanish capital and he may well wait and see what happens.

You can see why Saunders fancies Eriksen at Anfield though.

He is one of the best players in the league and in signing him from Tottenham, Liverpool would severely harm one of their rivals.

It doesn’t seem like a transfer that will happen, so Reds supporters – and Saunders – might be left disappointed!
