‘Keep it up’: Liverpool fans react to performance of Joel Matip against Chelsea

Liverpool kept up their 100% start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds went into the game in the capital sore from a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and the in-form Roberto Firmino ensured a sweet trip back to Liverpool; with Jurgen Klopp’s team still five points clear at the summit of the division.

N’Golo Kante did pull a goal back in the second half for the home side but Liverpool weren’t to be denied a memorable victory.

Since the Premier League formed in 1992 Liverpool haven’t laid their hands on the crown. Despite winning 97 points last season they were pipped to the post by Manchester City.

One man who was perhaps the standout performer yesterday was defender Joel Matip. He once again highlighted his transformation since Virgil van Dijk started playing alongside him with a solid performance.

The Cameroon defender is vastly underrated and his performances continue to slide underneath the radar. After missing out on a starting spot for the opening game of the season against Norwich he has gone from strength to strength.

Yesterday he was named Man of the Match by Liverpool’s official Twitter account.

Here is a selection of Tweets from the club’s supporters regarding Matip’s showing at Chelsea:
