Liverpool bid for Matheus Cunha before signing Luis Diaz, now he could reportedly join Man United for £45m
Liverpool and Manchester United are undoubtedly the two biggest clubs in the Premier League. However, both sides have had a torrid start to the season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side picking up just two points from their first two games, while the Red Devils are stuck at the bottom of the league table after back-to-back defeats.
The Merseysiders are unlikely to make any big signings before the end of the window despite their poor start, but Manchester United definitely will, and they have been linked with a ton of players.
The latest name to come out of the rumour mill is an old Liverpool target, Cunha.

Liverpool wanted to sign Manchester United-linked Matheus Cunha in January
About six months ago, after Liverpool signed Luis Diaz from Porto for an initial fee of £37 million (Sky Sports), reports from Spain revealed that Klopp actually wanted a different South American attacker.
It was claimed that the Reds actually tried to sign Cunha from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window. Klopp apparently preferred the Brazilian over Diaz, but that move could not be completed.
Reports revealed that Atleti immediately rejected Liverpool’s approach for Cunha as Diego Simeone viewed the forward as a ‘footballer of great importance.’
Liverpool turned their attention to Diaz after learning that Cunha was unavailable, and Klopp won the race for the talented Colombian, who scored an absolute banger for the Reds on Monday.
Cunha ‘close’ to signing for Man United
TalkSPORT revealed earlier this week that Manchester United are ‘close’ to completing the signing of Cunha from Atletico Madrid for a fee in the region of £42 million.
The Daily Mail later claimed that the Red Devils are weighing up a £45 million offer for the Brazilian after being made aware that he is willing to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Cunha, branded as a ‘huge talent’ by Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, joined Atleti last summer. Simeone only handed him nine starts in all competitions, but the Brazilian still managed to end the campaign with seven goals and seven assists.
That is a very good record, and it is no surprise that Liverpool wanted him in January and Manchester United are said to be keen now.
