Stan Collymore posts trio of Twitter posts after Liverpool stun Barcelona

The ex-Reds talisman was clearly delighted with an emphatic comeback by Jurgen Klopp’s men.

It was a memorable Anfield night for Liverpool last night as they progressed to the Champions League final in Madrid.

The Reds trailed Barcelona 3-0 from last week’s first leg yet defied the odds to win 4-0 and go through to face Ajax or Tottenham in June.

Braces from Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum ensured a memorable night on Merseyside. Every single player put in a superb shift to ensure a star-studded Barcelona side were embarrassed.

Former Reds striker Stan Collymore couldn’t hide his delight on Twitter. The 48-year-old scored 32 goals in 76 games for Liverpool after transferring from Nottingham Forest.

He clearly still holds the club close to his heart and posted a series of tweets expressing his delight last night. One of his posts claimed the performance was ‘special’:


After a serious tweet praising such a magnificent display of football, he also couldn’t resist a cheeky jibe at Gary Lineker. The former Barcelona man and BT Sport presenter celebrated jubilantly after Lionel Messi’s free-kick last week. Collymore sought out some light-hearted retribution via Twitter:

Collymore is notorious for being opinionated on Twitter and he signed off for the night with an image that needed no words. The picture showed Messi, hands on hips underneath the Anfield scoreboard reading ‘Liverpool 4 Barcelona 0’:
