Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino raves about Brazil teammate Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has raved about the quality of ex-Reds star Philippe Coutinho, who he still plays alongside for South American giants Brazil.

Firmino, 29, moved to Anfield at a time when Coutinho was a star on Merseyside and he eventually left in 2018 to join Barcelona.

The Brazilian pair played together for their country on Saturday, as they both scored in a 5-0 victory over Bolivia.

After time out on loan at Bayern Munich, Coutinho has started the new 2020/21 season in good form for Spanish giants Barcelona, managing one goal and two assists in three appearances.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder was a major success during his time in the Premier League and is still a big favourite with many Liverpool fans.

Firmino, who is now a Reds hero after winning a Champions League and Premier League with them, has been waxing lyrical about Coutinho after their latest international performance together.

“He’s phenomenal. You simply can’t say that he’s not a magician. He has magical powers. He produces plays that don’t exist, that you couldn’t make up,” Firmino told

“You always have to watch replays of his plays to understand what he’s done. He’s an unbelievable player. It was a pleasure to play with him at Liverpool, and it’s a pleasure to play with him for the Seleção. I’m a huge fan of his. He’s one of the very best players in the world.

TBR’s View:

Firmino scored twice during Brazil’s latest win to give himself some much-needed confidence and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will hope that he can continue that into his club form, as he’s yet to score in his opening five appearances of the campaign.

The centre-forward has too much quality to stay quiet for long and everybody knows how important he is to the title-winners.

It’s interesting to consider how Coutinho would it into the current Liverpool team if he was to return to Anfield and he’s the type of playmaker that could add even more dynamism going forward, but they seem to be coping without him.
