Pundit claims Liverpool are ‘looking’ at £27m centre-back who’s ‘strong and powerful’

Liverpool were in Champions League action last night against a player who has been linked with the Reds in recent weeks.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges ran out 1-0 winners over Ajax at Anfield, reaching the knockout stages of the competition in the process.

Lining up against Liverpool was Perr Schuurs, a player who is said to be on the Merseysiders’ radar, according to a report in The Mirror from late October.

Italy’s Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, claims that the Reds have already tabled a 30million Euro offer (£27million) for the talented youngster.

The 6ft 3in defender, who turned 21 last week, has been at Ajax since 2018 and has progressed through the ranks to the senior side following Matthijs de Ligt’s switch to Juventus.

Schuurs reportedly wowed Klopp and his coaches following his display in the reverse fixture in October, and he impressed again last night.

The Dutchman gave Sadio Mane a tough time in the opening 45 minutes, the former seeing a yellow card for a challenge on the Reds attacker not long before the break.

And Optus Sport pundit Michael Bridges has claimed that Liverpool are indeed looking at Schuurs, also singing his praises following another great display.

“The one man that has been the standout for me is Schuurs for Ajax,” Bridges said. “We saw him run Mane in one moment, he looks strong, powerful.

“Liverpool are actually looking at this player, so it’s a big performance under the spotlight.

“He used his body very well. It was a massive tick for him. There was a couple of moments when he did get caught out when you need to make a foul and he’s got that side to him as well.

“When he got a yellow card going into a second half against a front three of Liverpool where you know they’re going to be dynamic, he held his own, he didn’t get sucked into tackles and showed his maturity in not getting a second yellow. A bright future.”

Schuurs is a rising star who is very quickly making a name for himself and thus it’s not surprising to hear that Liverpool are reportedly interested in his signature.

With Virgil van Dijk out with a long-term injury, the need for Liverpool to bolster their defensive ranks is strong, and £27million for such a talented player – if true – sounds like a bargain.
