Liverpool appear to be playing with fire with Thiago deal

Liverpool remain in the hunt for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, but are risking a major transfer oversight.

The Reds want to sign the Spanish maestro, but is being claimed (The Guardian) they do not want to pay the 30 million/£27 million asking price.

This due to the fact that the former Barcelona ace only has one year remaining on his contract.

It is widely accepted that the player is indeed keen on a move to Anfield, but that ultimately might not count for anything if Liverpool are playing hardball as is claimed.

The man is seemingly there on a plate for the Reds, but the desire to get the best possible deal appears to be preventing a quick-fire transfer.

Liverpool are playing with fire, over a player who could potentially keep the club ahead of the chasing pack.

TBR’s View – Liverpool could end up kicking themselves

Thiago is a Rolls Royce footballer.

The star might be 29, which has concerned a few people, but that has no bearing on the type of player he is.

Thiago is a deep-lying playmaker and one of the very best in the world for that position. He doesn’t rely on pace, never has and never will.

It is reasonable to suggest that his style will allow him many more years at the top of his game, so Liverpool mustn’t delay any longer.

Sure it’s probably tempting to get a player of this ilk on the cheap or for free, but it’s a massively risky game to play and the money needs to be paid to Bayern before another club comes swooping in.

In all honesty, it’s somewhat shocking that hasn’t already happened.
