The summer transfer window just wouldn’t be the same without speculation surrounding the future of Antoine Griezmann.
The Atletico Madrid man is typically linked with a move away from Wanda Metropolitano and this summer looks like being no different.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Manchester United are the clear frontrunners for his signature this year, with PSG and Bayern Munich the competition.
It all seems a bit of a waste for a player of Griezmann’s class going to sign for the Red Devils, however.
Liverpool are a club that should definitely join the chase.
Boss Jurgen Klopp will be keen to ensure that the last 18 months aren’t a flash in the pan and star recruits will make sure that isn’t the case.
Griezmann would fit perfectly into Liverpool’s system.
For starters, he isn’t an out-and-out striker. The World Cup winner is better suited to playing as part of a three and that sees him fit Klopp’s ethos nicely.
Since signing for Atletico in 2014, the 27-year-old has netted 130 goals and created 48 assists in 248 games.
Klopp has spoken previously to Sky Sports about not needing to spend big.
But the question is whether or not he feels like he wants to add to his squad.
Divock Origi is hardly setting the world alight, whilst Daniel Sturridge will likely leave in the summer.
Griezmann has three years left on a £200k-a-week contract (Total Sportek), so he won’t come cheap.
If United are interested though, Liverpool should be too.
His record and style of play are both factors that suggest he could be a hit in the Premier League.
If Klopp does target a stellar summer recruit, then it should be Griezmann.
