‘Embarrassing’: Liverpool fans fuming at snub for Andy Robertson

The FIFA awards for 2019 took place last night at an awards ceremony in Milan and Liverpool enjoyed a successful evening.

Jurgen Klopp claimed Manager of the Year award; whilst Alisson Becker was named as the best goalkeeper for the last 12 months.

The Brazilian custodian alongside Virgil van Dijk were also named in the World XI which was revealed at the end of the evening.

Perhaps a surprising exclusion – at least to Liverpool supporters – was that of Andrew Robertson. The £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) star missed out at the expense of Real Madrid star Marcelo and that has caused quite a stir.

Real Madrid exited the Champions League at the round of 16 stage to Ajax last season, with Robertson lifting the trophy with Liverpool.

Many people consider Robertson to be one of the best left-backs in European football and although the team was put together based on players’ votes, his omission from the team is still glaring.

Liverpool fans are up in arms on Twitter.

They will always back their own players and they feel that Robertson has been harshly treated by not being included in the team.

The 25-year-old played 48 games for the Reds last season, including all but one in Liverpool’s run to Champions League glory.

Here is a selection of Tweets following Robertson’s omission from the World XI:
