Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in raiding Leeds United next summer and luring Kalvin Phillips to the top end of the Premier League as the midfielder continues to shine – and Danny Murphy’s recent claim will excite fans.
Phillips, 24, continues to shine on the Premier League stage after two excellent years with Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship. The Argentine manager converted Phillips into a holding midfielder and he has since shone for the Whites.
So much so, he has broken into the England side – picking up four caps of late. Now, the Mirror claim Liverpool and Tottenham are set to play out a tug of war for the midfielder. A fee of a huge £50million has been touted for his signature.
Writing in his Mail column, former Tottenham and Liverpool star Murphy picked Phillips as one of 10 players to watch at the start of the season – claiming the Leeds man is excellent at being able to “sense danger”.

“I played at the base of midfield for a good part of my career so I appreciate the job he does for Leeds protecting the defence but then having the vision to start attacks going the other way,” Murphy said in September.
“What I like about Phillips is his ability to sense danger so he can react and intervene before his side are under pressure. Not everyone asked to play holding midfield has that,” Murphy added, on the £30,000-a-week (Mirror) midfielder.
TBR’s view – Phillips needs to stay at Leeds
Although he would be a good signing for both Liverpool or Tottenham, there are question marks over whether the midfielder would start. At Liverpool, he would certainly act as cover for Fabinho – given the Brazilian is one of the best in the league.
At Tottenham, he might get more of a chance of game time and rival the likes of Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But his best chance of regular game time in the Premier League is at Leeds. Sticking around with the Whites is his best option.
