Liverpool and Man City reportedly want striker that Crespo likened to Aguero in 2020
Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly in talks to raid Inter Milan to sign striker Lautaro Martinez this summer after another stunning campaign for Antonio Conte’s title-winning side – a player that Hernan Crespo compared to Sergio Aguero.
Martinez, 23, has had a hand in 27 goals during Inter’s brilliant campaign. The Argentina international has netted 18 goals and created nine more, whether that be playing behind Romelu Lukaku, out wide or in a front two alongside the Belgian.
Football site 90Min have now claimed that Inter are willing to sanction a deal for less than £70million – and that has seen Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City request Inter Milan to keep them up to date on Martinez going forward.
Just over 12 months ago, Argentine legend and ex-Chelsea striker Crespo compared Martinez to Aguero – who is about to leave Manchester City this summer. Crespo says that Martinez could become the next Aguero, more so than Paulo Dybala.
“Lautaro could be the next Kun Aguero. We know about Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala but we are getting to see what Lautaro Martinez can do,” Crespo claimed in April 2020, as quoted by football website Mundo Albiceleste.
“Maybe he’s not as good of a dribbler but he is more of a team player than Aguero, who at times disconnects. Lautaro always participates, he could play alone or with another striker like he’s doing now with Lukaku or even in a trident.”
TBR’s view – Which club does Martinez suit best?
Martinez is a top, top striker. He has bags of pace, trickery, aggression, creativity and clearly, a big eye for goal. So, which club does he suit? Well, Chelsea already have numerous options up top – with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz currently first choice.
Neither are going anywhere, any time soon. So, Martinez should ignore Stamford Bridge. At Liverpool, faith continues to be given to Roberto Firmino but it is more likely that Martinez is a long-term replacement for Mo Salah or Sadio Mane.
A move to Anfield, then, is beneficial for Martinez if Salah goes. But it is clear that his best move is to Manchester City – given Crespo believes he is the next version of a player who is about to leave.
