‘Welcome back’, ‘Good to see him’: Liverpool fans react to return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Reds midfielder will hope to return to first-team action before the season is out.

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped up his return to fitness by playing 40 minutes of the Under 23s win over Derby County.

The Reds midfielder hasn’t played since injuring knee ligaments in the semi-final of last season’s Champions League.

His return would be a timely boost for Jurgen Klopp who is chasing the club’s first Premier League title.

The 25-year-old was just coming into some form prior to picking up the serious injury.

Having signed for the Reds from Arsenal for £35 million, according to BBC Sport, he was under pressure to succeed.

He was loving life at Anfield though, having the freedom to maraud forward from the middle of the park.

It is fair to say Liverpool have missed his creative spark in midfield and will relish his return.

The Under 23s secured a 3-1 win over the Rams thanks to a brace from Curtis Jones and a Rafael Camacho strike.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had been expected to play 45 minutes during the contest but was withdrawn after 41.

The player was holding his hamstring but it looked as though it was potentially just a precaution and after so long on the sidelines the club will need to tread carefully.

Liverpool’s official Twitter tweeted a photo of Oxlade-Chamberlain, welcoming him back to the action, which read:

Reds fans were keen to get in on the act of wishing their man well and took to Twitter to offer their best wishes.

We rounded up the very best of what Liverpool fans were saying with regards to the central midfielder…
