Newcastle United will take on Liverpool this weekend looking for another impressive win on their travels.
Steve Bruce’s men shocked the Premier League when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium.
Liverpool will provide them with a far sterner test, however, with the Reds on a long unbeaten run at Anfield.
The Magpies could also come up against a man they missed out on signing in 2017 when they travel to Merseyside this weekend.
Rafa Benitez had eyes on a deal to sign ex-West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian two years ago. The Spaniard had lined-up a swap deal involved his compatriot and current Newcastle stopper Karl Darlow, according to The Chronicle.
That never came to fruition and Adrian would stay at West Ham until he was released by the Hammers last summer.
After leaving the London-based team last season he was picked up as a free agent by Liverpool. It was anticipated that he’d act as an understudy to Alisson, although an injury in the club’s very first game of the season thrust him into the spotlight.
With no prognosis on the Brazilian, it’s unsure at this stage when he might return to the fold.
That does mean good news for Adrian, however, who will remain in goal this week.
Given that he was out of the team when Benitez came calling previously he will want to show Newcastle what they missed out on.
He has looked fairly steady in the games he has played in; with the exception of a comical error against Southampton.
Newcastle will have been given a confidence boost from their win over Tottenham a few weeks ago and Liverpool will need Adrian to have his wits about him this weekend.
If things had panned out different back in 2017, the ex-Real Betis man could have been lining-up against Liverpool this weekend instead.
