‘I feel much better’: Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian hopes to be fit for Southampton test

The Spaniard goalkeeper hopes to be fit enough to play at St Mary’s tomorrow.

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has confirmed to the club’s official website that he is hopeful of being fit to face Southampton tomorrow.

It had been feared that the Spaniard would miss the trip to St Mary’s after sustaining an injury in a collision with a pitch invader after Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea.

With Alisson Becker already on the treatment table it looked like third choice Andy Lonergan could make a surprise first appearance for the club.

That might not be necessary though with Adrian hopeful of lining-up for the Reds tomorrow.

He told the club’s official website: “Today I feel much better. It was strange, a weird situation, because we were celebrating between ourselves and one guy jumped from the crowd and started running.

“I think have many chances to play tomorrow. I feel mentally ready and I also hope today with the treatment of the ankle it’s going to be much better. But I am very optimistic to start playing tomorrow again.”

TBR Verdict – Early days but Liverpool already dependant on Adrian

What a whirlwind week for Adrian. Signed just before last Friday’s game with Norwich, the ex-West Ham player was expected to act as an understudy to Alisson.

An injury to the Brazilian in the first half of last week’s game has thrust the 32-year-old into the Liverpool spotlight.

He has already claimed a European winners medal and already Liverpool are desperately hoping he is fit for tomorrow.

Nobody thought he’d become this important to the team and if he doesn’t make it tomorrow it would represent a real blow to Liverpool.
