Highly-rated Liverpool defender Adam Lewis has penned a new deal at Anfield, according to Sky Sports.

The 19-year-old is a regular for the club’s u23 team and recently went to Marbella for warm weather training with the senior squad.

A left-back by trade, Lewis has also played on the wing and in midfield for the academy.

Alberto Moreno is out of contract at Anfield during the summer and that could open the door.

Having not played a first-team game as of yet it seems unlikely that he will oust Andrew Robertson just yet.

Boss Jurgen Klopp was clearly keen to keep hold of the player who boasts massive potential.

It now remains to be seen what plans the boss has for him.

Given his energetic nature, it seems like a natural progression that Lewis joins the first-team ranks and learns from Robertson.

The Scotland international has developed into one of the best left-backs in Europe and he could teach Lewis a thing or two.

Moreno has fallen out of favour at Anfield.

Liverpool supporters have a real affinity with their academy graduates and they would give Lewis their full backing.

Keeping him in and around the first-team picture next season could save the club millions.

Klopp has been known to shuffle his pack in the cup competitions and that bodes well for the versatile performer.

Lewis has contributed one goal and seven assists in the academy this season and a debut could be on the horizon.
