The Mirror are reporting that Liverpool bosses have signed off a £21 million bid for Benfica’s Anderson Talisca. The 22-year-old Brazilian can play as a forward or an attacking midfielder, and has been compared to Roberto Firmino. Now, having scored 20 goals in 76 games for the Portuguese side is said to be a target for FSG and Liverpool.
Like Max Meyer, a move for Talisca makes little sense on paper. He would fill a position in which there is already a surplus of options for Jurgen Klopp, and whilst he wants to add depth to his squad, it would surely seem that there should be other priorities.
Another offer that could be made in the near future could be for PSV left-back Jetro Willems, after missing out on Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and accepting an offer for Brad Smith, according to the Liverpool Echo. The highly rated 22 year old is said to be subject to a bid somewhere in the region of £10 million to £13 million.
With just one year left on his PSV contract, the attacking minded full back may be available at a bargain price. The only concern for Reds fans would be that he is a full back who loves to bomb forwards and can be culpable for not getting back in time, similar to current first choice left back Alberto Moreno. Willems also missed much of last season with a knee injury, which may cast doubts over his fitness going into the new season.
Meanwhile, Joe Allen is nearing completion of a move to Stoke, so claim the Daily Star. It was widely reported that he was holding talks with Potters boss Mark Hughes yesterday, but it now seems he may be set to join his new teammates in Florida this week.
The Welshman’s departure now seems inevitable, as it has for much of the season since the departure of Brendan Rodgers, who brought him to Anfield from his former club Swansea. With a £13 million deal looking like it will soon be completed, Allen will hope to carry his form from Euro 2016 into the Premier League season.
Lastly, former Barcelona defender Juanma Garcia is at Melwood this week on trial say the Liverpool Echo. The 19-year-old was captain of the Barcelona under 19s last season, and can play at centre back or left back, and having left Barcelona at the end of his contract in the summer, could be in line for a move to join Liverpool’s under 23 side if he continues to impress in pre-season.
Another young Spanish target could be another candidate for left back in the long term, with the club said to be monitoring Valencia teenager Toni Lato, if Deporte Valenciano is to be believed. The 18 year old is yet to play for the Valencia first team, and would certainly be considered one for the future should a move to Anfield materialise.
